Place & story
A church built in 1939–41
Saint Columba's Catholic Church in Cloonagh was built between 1939 and 1941. Its six-bay nave is accompanied by a four-storey square tower and a polygonal chancel. The building replaced a church dating from 1832; the Irish Architectural Archive records the use of cut stone from the dismantled mansion at Derrycasson. [2] [3]
Longford’s first Leinster club champions
On 9 December 2018 Mullinalaghta St Columba's became the first Longford club to win the Leinster senior football title. They defeated Kilmacud Crokes by 1–8 to 1–6 in Tullamore. Gary Rogers scored a late penalty before Aidan McElligott added the point that secured the two-point victory. [4]
