Place & story
Two names in the school record
The Ulster Historical Foundation’s source guide lists Culcrow and Milltown together for the school archive SCH/946. The shared reference links the older Milltown name with Culcrow’s educational history, rather than identifying a separate school simply because a different name was used. [2]
Remembering a choir’s founder
Culcrow Primary School remembers Lauren Minford as the teacher who founded its choir and helped violin pupils prepare for performances and examinations. She began her teaching career there and taught for six months before her death on 1 March 2013. The school’s tribute records a commemorative plaque in her classroom and the continuing importance of singing to its remembrance of her. [3]
Music in everyday learning
The school also describes a programme of regular music lessons using rhymes, songs and games. This provides a documented example of music within local school life, alongside the choir’s particular place in the school’s memory. [4]
