Place & story

Our Lady of Lourdes

Our Lady of Lourdes Church stands on Steelstown Road. Its steep roof creates a tent-like interior lined with western hemlock. Low windows along the walls admit light beneath the dominant timber roof, giving the worship space an inward focus. [2]

The school teams’ beginnings

Steelstown’s Gaelic football club began in 1987. Its first under-twelve team was called Steelstown/Pennyburn, reflecting the primary schools from which it recruited. Training took place at Templemore Sports Complex. The club later took the name Steelstown Brian Ógs in memory of player Brian Óg McKeever, and retired his number five jersey. [3]
