Place & story

A new suburb takes shape

Mary O’Boyle’s parish history recalls the first Hartstown houses appearing in 1977–78. St Ciaran’s parish was constituted on 28 June 1979, and the priest’s house initially doubled as a church and meeting place. The primary school opened in September 1981, with Aeneas Lane welcoming its first 34 pupils. Its hall also gave local clubs and community activities a larger home. [2]

School and community centre

Hartstown Community School opened in September 1992 to serve Hartstown and Huntstown. Another important meeting place, the community centre, was built in the 1990s. In July 2022, Fingal County Council announced plans to acquire it from St Ciaran’s parish, recognising its role in activities ranging from preschool groups to karate and bingo. [3] [4]
