Place & story

The house above the Boyne

Beau Parc House was built around 1755 on a high site overlooking the River Boyne. The architectural inventory attributes its central block to Nathaniel Clements, while identifying the wings added in the 1770s as possibly the work of Daniel Beaufort. Convex walls connect those wings to the limestone-faced main house. A columned doorway and differently shaped windows aligned above it give the entrance front a carefully ordered classical composition. [2]

A station and a station master’s house

The surviving station building carries an 1857 date plaque. It combined passenger facilities with accommodation for the station master, using the sloping ground to provide a basement below its red-brick upper floors. The architectural inventory records carved bargeboards, sash sidelights beside the entrance and limestone remains of the platform. This dual-purpose building preserves the material history of railway employment as well as the village's former passenger service. [3]

People & connections

Mary Hall’s post and telegraph office

Slater's 1894 directory describes Beauparc as a village in Painestown parish with a Great Northern Railway station. Mary Hall served as postmistress at its post and telegraph office, receiving letters through Drogheda. The directory also names Thomas Muldoon as a blacksmith and Gustavus F. W. Lambart at Beauparc House. These entries give a compact picture of estate residence, skilled trade and communications within the same small community. [4]
