Place & story

Clonsilogh on the map

An archaeological assessment for the Greater Dublin Drainage scheme identifies Clonsilogh on John Rocque’s 1760 map as Clonshagh. It appears as several houses beside a road, south of Stockhole. The assessment distinguishes this settlement from Bellcamp House and its landscaped grounds to the east. [2]

Woodlands House

Woodlands House on Clonshaugh Road was built around 1735 for the Reverend John Jackson, Vicar of Santry. The architectural inventory describes a red-brick house over a raised basement, with a roof lantern and prominent chimneystacks. Its classical entrance surround is a later addition to the earlier building. [3]

The estate conservatory

A separate conservatory beside Woodlands dates to about 1880. Timber framing rests on a brick base, while cast iron supplies both structural and decorative details. The architectural survey records surviving elements of its heating system, evidence of the practical technology behind the estate’s ornamental planting. [4]
