Place & story
A service begun by volunteers
The day-care service later based at Glenview Lodge began in 1970 at Saint Dominic’s House in Tallaght village. Tallaght Welfare Society became involved before the move to the lodge. The original Good Practices in Mental Health in Tallaght account records a service intended to help older and disabled residents remain connected with community life. [2]
Meals and company
The account describes a coach collecting members for hot meals and activities including bingo, exercise and music. Volunteers delivered dinners by car when winter conditions prevented the coach from travelling. Local schools and youth groups organised entertainment, while outings and shared holidays extended the centre’s social life beyond the lodge. [2]
