Place & story
A bequest from Campsie House
Major William Quin of Campsie House died on 12 November 1922. A notice in the Belfast Gazette the following May records that his 1918 will left the residue of his property to Faughanvale Church, with the particular aim of encouraging attendance at church and Sunday school. Probate was granted in March 1923 to executors including the bishop of Derry and Raphoe and the rector of Faughanvale. The notice provides a documented connection between a local household and parish institutions. [2]
An industrial centre outside the city
Campsey became one of the major industrial locations recognised in the Derry Area Plan 2011, alongside Maydown. A council economic-development review updated in May 2017 records seven hectares of its industrial zoning developed for Perfecseal. About thirteen hectares, or 64 per cent, remained undeveloped in the assessment. These figures describe a particular stage in the village’s development, when substantial manufacturing premises stood beside land reserved for further industry. [3]
