Place & story
The church and its Victorian interior
Clanabogan Parish Church was built in 1863 to the designs of Welland and Gillespie. Its Gothic Revival exterior encloses a High Victorian interior attributed to Thomas Drew around 1889, with decorative marble, mosaic tiles and memorials. The National Churches Trust dates the organ to 1863, connecting an important part of the church’s musical furnishing with its original construction. [2]
The surviving contract drawings
The Representative Church Body Library preserves detailed drawings for Clanabogan Church in Drumragh parish. A sheet dated 27 May 1861 records the seats, bench ends and their construction, while other drawings in the series cover the reading desk, chancel rail, windows, tower and spire. These records show how closely the original architects planned both the building and its timber furnishings before the church opened. [3]
Camphill at Clanabogan
A Camphill community began at Clanabogan in 1984. Its shared households bring together adults with learning disabilities, co-workers and their children, combining home life with work and community activities. It forms part of the international movement that began in Scotland in 1940 under Karl König and his companions. Clanabogan’s establishment brought that model of shared living into the rural district outside Omagh. [4]
