Place & story
The Kennedy home
Built in 1902, Cultra Manor served as the home of Sir Robert and Lady Kennedy and their four daughters. The house now stands within the Ulster Folk Museum grounds. Its restored rooms include the Kennedy Room, drawing room and dining room, used for meetings and events. [2] [3]
Preserving voices and buildings
The Ulster Folk Museum opened in 1964. Its language and dialect archive developed from that opening, with curator G. B. Adams collecting and studying Irish, Ulster Scots and regional English. The museum’s building archives record the original locations, residents and transfer to Cultra of more than fifty vernacular buildings, including Duncrun Cottier’s House and Gilford Cinema. [4] [5]
