Place & story
Queensborough House
Queensborough House dates to about 1780 and formed part of the Beaulieu Estate. The Customs and Excise Board occupied it, giving the house a direct connection with shipping through the Boyne estuary. Its five-bay front rises above a basement, with a fanlit doorway approached by limestone steps and urns finishing the roof’s verge coping. [2]
Replacement coastguard housing
A terrace of six former coastguard houses records another phase of the settlement’s maritime history. The National Inventory of Architectural Heritage dates the surveyed replacement house to 1943 and identifies it as replacing structures burned around 1920. [3]
