Place & story
A new chapter for the windmill
Knockloughrim Windmill is recognisable by its onion-shaped dome. The Architectural Heritage Fund records that its sails were destroyed in the 1890s and that the building subsequently served different community uses. In June 2025 the fund awarded Cabra Community Development Association a grant to investigate restoration for community use. The award supported consultation, feasibility assessment and governance planning; it was a step towards deciding the building’s future rather than an announcement of completed restoration. [2]
St Conlus on Hillhead Road
The parish’s own account dates St Conlus Church to 1801. Standing on Hillhead Road within Knockloughrim village, it serves Termoneeny parish and forms part of the joint parish organisation with Desertmartin. [3]
