Place & story
A district followed by its stream
The 1972 electoral boundary order defined a Bryansburn ward partly by following Bryans Burn, including its covered sections and a culvert beneath the railway. The ward also extended towards the coast and included Bryansburn Road, Seacourt Lane and parts of Princetown Road. This historical boundary shows how the stream, railway and growing residential streets supplied recognisable edges for local administration. The description belongs to that period and should not be read as a current ward map. [2]
Printmaking at Seacourt
In the wider western Bangor neighbourhood, Margaret Arthur and Jean Duncan founded Seacourt Print Workshop in 1981. With help from the education service, they established it in the basement of Seacourt Teachers’ Centre on Princetown Road. The organisation later moved to the Carnegie Library and then Balloo, before returning to central Bangor. Its beginnings linked a local educational building with artists seeking somewhere close to home to practise printmaking, giving the Seacourt name a continuing cultural association. [3]
Bryansburn Rangers and Ballywooley
Bryansburn Rangers carries the district name into Bangor’s sporting life. In a submission to Ards and North Down Borough Council in April 2026, the club described its home at Ballywooley on Crawfordsburn Road and a growing youth academy. It proposed an artificial pitch, improved drainage and expanded changing and clubhouse facilities. These were plans presented to the council, rather than completed works, and illustrate the club’s efforts to develop a long-term community sports ground. [4]
