Place & story

The primary school

Kilcooley Primary School opened in September 1969 to serve the estate and neighbouring areas. Its own history records the creation of the Rainbow Room nurture group in September 2009, supporting children’s transition into mainstream classrooms. Specialist provision began with one learning-support class in September 2019. [2]

People & connections

Women’s community work

Kilcooley Women’s Centre has provided services since 1995. Local women participate in its management and staffing, while its programmes combine education, employment skills, childcare and wellbeing. The centre’s original base in the Kilcooley estate connects this work to the local community, even as its activities have expanded across Ards and North Down. [3]
