Place & story
The earlier settlement
A 2020 planning inspector’s report identifies Old Town as the original site of Abbeyleix before the 1750s. It distinguishes this settlement from the later town and places Millbrook House to its south, reached by a lane serving a small group of buildings. [2]
The mill site to the south
The inspected Millbrook site included a pond associated with the former mill. The house itself has five bays, two storeys and dormer windows, with a stone-built stable block nearby. The architectural inventory dates the agent’s house to 1885. [2]
