Place & story
Building the school
The Historic Environment Division dates the building to 1855–56, replacing a school erected around 1826–28 closer to the street. Its account names local masons Edward and Patrick McCourt as the stoneworkers, while leaving the architect unidentified. [2]
Classrooms and changing use
The school has two rear classrooms, each entered through its own lobby, with small stores between them. Sandstone surrounds frame the openings and a bellcote rises over the central inscription. It closed in 1972, when pupils transferred to the new primary school off Tandragee Road. [2]
