Place & story
Richmount’s school buildings
Richmount Primary School traces local schooling to 1820. Lord Lurgan supported a schoolhouse and teacher’s residence on a four-acre site beside the old Portadown–Moy road; the school opened in 1849. A replacement building opened on the Moy Road near Scotch Street in 1963. Dame Mary Peters formally opened a new hall and classroom in January 2015. [2]
A youth and community centre
Scotch Street Youth and Community Centre was formed in 2008 to provide an inclusive club for local young people and the wider community. In July 2022 its representatives met Communities Minister Deirdre Hargey to discuss their work and the pressures caused by rising living costs. [3]
