Place & story
The Woodview name
The Department for Communities’ survey records the Woodview name at the house now numbered 137 Portadown Road by at least 1860. Its listed-building record identifies that house as Grade B1, listed in May 1988. The wider locality subsequently became known as Woodview Post Office. [2] [3]
The former post-office house
Across the road, number 126 preserves the elongated plan of a traditional farmstead, with living accommodation at one end and a cowshed at the other. A building matching it appears on the 1835 map. The 1901 census described a thatched dwelling. The department recorded this altered building in 2022 but did not list it. [2]
Changing premises
The survey traces the post office from number 136 Portadown Road, where it operated before 1891, to 149 Mullanasilla Road sometime between 1905 and 1947. Number 126 became the post office between approximately 1954 and 1970. Map evidence suggests that use had ended before 1984. These ranges reflect the surviving evidence rather than known moving dates. [2]
