Place & story
Buildings of different dates
The architectural inventory dates Garryhundon House to about 1880, with detached outbuildings behind it from around 1825. The later house has two storeys and a half-dormer attic on an L-shaped plan. Its pedimented Doric entrance and window surrounds adopt an eighteenth-century style despite the building’s later date. [2]
The demesne record
The garden survey identifies Garryhundon on successive Ordnance Survey editions. It records a walled garden, parkland, woodland and artificial water features, while noting substantial disturbance apparently caused by excavation, possibly for sand or gravel. That observation is tentative: it records the survey’s interpretation rather than a confirmed account of the extraction work. [3]
