Place & story
The meeting above a public house
Crusheen GAA began on 2 January 1887, according to the county board’s club history. Its founding meeting took place in the Irish National League room above Mary O’Grady’s public house. The account places early club activity within local politics as well as sport, and dates its first championship success to 1934. [2]
Successive senior titles
The club won its first Clare senior hurling championship in 2010, beating Cratloe, and retained the Canon Hamilton Cup against Sixmilebridge in 2011. That year it also reached the Munster club final, losing a replay to Na Piarsaigh. These are achievements of the parish club, whose sporting catchment extends beyond the electoral division’s boundary. [2]
Stonework at Inchicronan
At Inchicronan Island, within the wider division, the abbey stands near the end of a peninsula in the lake. The National Monuments Service records foliage and spiral carving around the east window and a small praying figure at a sacristy doorway. Inserted pointed arches connect the church with its southern transept, preserving successive alterations rather than a building completed in one campaign. [3] [4]
