Place & story

Changing the northern road

In 1831 William Dargan was engaged to improve the alignment of the road between Ballough and Balrothery, bypassing the steep hill at Man of War. The work was completed in 1834. Fingal's industrial heritage survey records this alteration as part of the development of the county's main roads. [2]

Cricket at Man of War

Jim Bennett's cricket history identifies a Man-O-War match against Balbriggan's Wanderers on 21 May 1883. Much later, the Man-O-War and Balrothery clubs combined to form North County for the 1986 season, while retaining their separate identities in Fingal League cricket. The merger provided a route towards competing at senior level. [3]
