Place & story

From separate clubs to Saint Mary’s

A club bearing the Kilmurry Ibrickane parish name formed in 1914 and won that year’s junior championship, according to the club history published by the parish. Its first senior county title followed in 1933. A separate Quilty team then became successful, and the two parish clubs met in the 1935 county final. In 1939 the parish footballers reunited as Saint Mary’s and won the senior championship again. The sequence connects Mullagh’s sporting district with neighbouring Quilty. [2]
