Place & story
Building a community organisation
Obair Newmarket-on-Fergus Ltd began in 1993 to address local unemployment. Its account credits Brendan O’Regan with helping community groups unite in one development organisation. A parent-and-toddler group subsequently identified a need for childcare, and a Family Centre committee formed in 1997. In 2000 construction began on a site beside the library acquired from Clare County Council, supported by local fundraising and a government grant. The organisation later added the Tradaree Hub, which opened in 2020. [2]
