Place & story
From boathouse to clubhouse
Sutton Dinghy Club began in May 1940. Its own history records that first captain Desmond Keatinge lent members a boathouse, while seven International 12-foot dinghies raced under the new club flag. A raffle of an IDRA 14-foot racing dinghy raised £120 towards a clubhouse. Construction began on 16 November 1948, with members and their families undertaking much of the work. Douglas Heard, then president of the Irish Dinghy Racing Association, officially opened the clubhouse on 1 June 1951. [2]
