Place & story
The discovery of 1931
A National Museum archival report records a stone-lined grave uncovered at Carrowntober East in April 1931. Gardaí secured the site, and local antiquarian T. B. Costello placed its pottery vessel in their care. Adolf Mahr investigated on 16 April. The report, based on his notes, sketches and photographs, describes a rectangular limestone cist with a capstone, a decorated vase and two flint scrapers. [2]
