Place & story
New rooms and community fundraising
June Davis’s history of Emo National School records a prefabricated classroom added in 1967 when a third teacher joined the staff. The arrival of the rural water scheme also enabled new toilets and wash-basins, replacing the earlier dry system. Between 1969 and 1971, staff and volunteers ran a weekly raffle to fund oil-fired heating in place of turf stoves. The school’s institutional account dates its old building to 1889 and records the children moving to new premises on 15 June 2009. [2] [3]
