Place & story
A new building and a combined school
Shanagolden National School’s history records the opening of its present building in 1943 on land at Clashganiff provided by Thomas Madigan. It began with five classrooms; an extension in the 1980s increased that number to eight and added a hall. The account also links Nutgrove National School’s closure in 1968 with increased enrolment and the amalgamation of Shanagolden’s separate boys’ and girls’ schools under one principal. [2]
