Place & story
A new site in 1973
Saint Mochta’s National School opened on its Feran Drive site in 1973. Margaret Roddy’s 2023 report distinguishes that move from a major extension completed in 2013 under former principal Niall Sloan. The fiftieth anniversary therefore marked the school’s present location, rather than the beginning of education in Louth village. [2]
The school broadens its provision
In the same report, principal Patrick Martin and vice-principal Aileen Carroll described the opening of two autism classes during the 2022–23 school year. The parents’ association was raising money for an inclusive playground. The new classes were already operating; the playground remained a fundraising project in that account. [2]
An anniversary gathering
A July 2023 report records a family fun day held to celebrate the school’s fiftieth anniversary, bringing together people from Louth village and its surroundings. This confirms a completed community celebration beyond the earlier announcement of plans for the occasion. [3]
