Place & story
An educational merger
Our Lady’s Secondary School traces its origins to the Sisters of Mercy, who arrived in Templemore in 1863 and provided second-level education. Their convent school became a voluntary secondary school in 1955. The Christian Brothers had opened their boys’ secondary school in 1932. These two institutions amalgamated in 1985 to form Our Lady’s. The school’s own history records a further change in 2007, when it transferred to the trusteeship of CEIST, Catholic Education an Irish Schools Trust. [2]
