Place & story
Newspapers, guides and a scholarly journal
Roscrea Heritage Society’s account records the launch of the voluntary newspaper Roscrea People in 1974 and publication of the local antiquities guide Roscrea and District in 1976. The first volume of the journal Éile followed in 1982, in an edition of 750 copies. Its regional focus encouraged research into the Midlands’ manuscripts, stone monuments and metalwork. Together these publications offered different ways to record local life and investigate the surrounding area’s past. [2]
