Place & story
A tower above the nave
Saint Mary’s Church at Bally Beg was built in 1786. Its central entrance tower rises through three stages to a stone spire, while battlements and pinnacles extend the Gothic treatment across the building. The architectural survey records pointed windows with limestone surrounds, hood mouldings and timber tracery, together with stepped buttresses supporting the nave walls. Nineteenth- and twentieth-century tombs and memorials occupy the surrounding churchyard, enclosed by limestone walls and wrought-iron gates and railings. [2]
