Place & story

Opening the grounds in 2000

The club’s report in the Kilkenny GAA Yearbook records the official opening of Dunnamaggin’s grounds on 20 May 2000. A senior hurling challenge between Kilkenny and Limerick marked the occasion, watched by more than 3,000 people. The opening followed years of fundraising and voluntary work. A souvenir club history, On the Banks of the Glory, was compiled for the event. [2]

Girls’ football takes root

A schoolgirls’ county final victory in November 2014 helped prompt the establishment of Dunnamaggin Ladies Gaelic Football Club. Its founding account describes a seven-person organising committee and support from the hurling club, which shared its facilities. Training began on 14 March 2015 with an eight-week Gaelic4Girls programme: 58 girls attended and 49 subsequently became club members. [3]
