Place & story

A dated church and later chancel

Saint Molua’s Church of Ireland church at Camaghy carries a stone plaque dating the building to 1824 and naming the vicar, R. M. Cumming. The National Inventory of Architectural Heritage records a two-bay nave and a square tower with three stages, battlements and corner pinnacles. The chancel and vestry were added in 1891. [2]

The church retains timber windows with Y-shaped tracery, a western gallery reached by stairs in the entrance porch, and an exposed timber king-post roof. Its surrounding graveyard contains early stone grave markers. Together the dated plaque, later additions and surviving fittings make the building a record of successive phases of local church provision. [2]
