Place & story
A parish centred on Corlough
Corlough gave its name to a Catholic parish formed from Templeport in 1877. The parish history records a later reunion with Templeport in 2016. The church itself predates the division: Saint Patrick’s was built in 1857 during the ministry of Patrick Smith. An earlier church at Arderra had also served as a school. [2]
Saint Patrick’s Church
The parish describes Saint Patrick’s as a sandstone building. One distinctive feature is its provision for the horses of worshippers: arched stables or shelters were incorporated into one side of the church. Extensive renovations began in 2001. The church stands in the townland whose name became that of the wider parish. [2]
