Place & story
Felix and Mary Leonard
Gaby Burns’s compilation of local national-school records identifies Felix Leonard as Gubaveeny’s principal in 1842, with Mary Leonard serving as work mistress. The entry cites education record ED 2/4/84 and includes a dated note for 13 October 1842. These names place the school within the early decades of the national education system. [2]
Rebuilding and ownership
The same compilation identifies Gubaveeny as school roll number 3537. Its discussion of teacher-owned schools notes that the building was destroyed by fire and rebuilt by teacher William Lee. The school also appears among premises whose ownership had to be addressed when education grants were being reviewed in the 1880s. [2]
