Place & story
Remembering the school
Historian Turtle Bunbury describes Tobinstown Cross with the former school to the north and a former pub, shop and post office to the east. In his account, teacher Michael Moloney recalled arriving at Tobinstown School in 1965 and working alongside Miss O’Leary. The school closed in July 1968. Most of its roughly sixty pupils transferred to Rathvilly, where Moloney also moved, while others went to Ballyconnell. His recollections preserve the last years of an institution that had helped sustain the crossroads community. [2]
