Place & story

Fish-curing arrangements

In March 1901, Donegal MP Mr Boyle challenged the allocation of Rossbeg’s fish-curing station, asking why a local curer had lost it to a Scottish operator. Chief Secretary George Wyndham replied that the Congested Districts Board let its stations for individual fishing seasons, considering the terms offered to fishermen and applicants’ business reputations. [2]

A request for better landings

On 22 February 1904, Hugh Law raised the Rossbeg fishery in Dowros Bay, asking for an additional boat-slip at Port-a-raid or another suitable location. Wyndham answered that the Congested Districts Board would consider the adequacy of Rossbeg’s landing accommodation at its next meeting. [3]
