Place & story

A rural post office

Ken Smith records Creagh post office by June 1884, routed through Enniskillen from 1916, and closed on 26 May 1999. [2]

Music in the 1890s

A historical directory of Irish brass bands records the formation of Creagh Unionist Brass Band in autumn 1892, with twenty-four members. Henderson Gulliland was an organiser, David Armstrong its instructor and Andrew Savage its bandmaster. Associated with the local Orange lodge, the band was still active in 1895. The entry provides a dated glimpse of organised music-making in the locality. [3]

Seven occupied houses

The 1911 census report counted seven houses in Creagh townland, all inhabited, and thirty-seven residents. Its comparative population figures were thirty-five in 1891 and twenty-six in 1901. The report also recorded forty-two outbuildings and farm steadings, placing these households within a working rural landscape. The figures cover the townland in Aghavea parish, rather than a separately measured village population. [4]
