Place & story

A school dated 1947

Scoil Naisiunta an Cheathrar Alainn bears a date of 1947. Its limestone walls and slate roof give it a familiar local character, while round windows beside the entrance doors and the long band of high windows reflect modern architectural ideas. The 2009 inventory also recorded a sheltered seating area in the playground. [2]

An older house in the settlement

An inventory entry records a thatched house dating to about 1800 within a settlement cluster. Its rubble limestone walls, stepped gables and opposing doorways preserve an older domestic form. By the survey of August 2009 it was derelict, with failing thatch and several altered or blocked openings. That dated condition records the building at the time of inspection. [3]
