Place & story
School sites and a remembered move
The national school’s own history recalls an early arrangement in which Coralstown’s church served as a classroom on weekdays. Around 1830 Mrs Dopping of Lowtown House provided a school site at Crossanstown. A later pupil, Mick Geraghty, remembered moving into a new building in April 1932 while gramophone music played. This recollection gives a personal detail to the school’s sequence of replacement buildings. [2]
A new school and another use for the old one
The present Coralstown school was built in 2007, with an additional classroom in 2011. The 1932 school subsequently stood empty. In a 2026 interview, Jill Leavy described converting that former school into a home for The Great House Revival television programme. She retained old coat hooks and doors, while reproducing the original plaque after external insulation made retaining its exposed position impractical. [2] [3]
