Place & story
A sweathouse moved from its site
The Leitrim Sweathouse Project recorded two accounts of a structure being moved from Coollegreane and rebuilt behind a community centre during the 1980s. The researchers noted that this could explain why the archaeological survey found no visible remains at the recorded Coollegreane site in 1991. The relocation is reported local testimony, rather than a fully documented reconstruction history. [2]
The townland in 1911
The 1911 census recorded 90 people in Coollegreane townland, compared with 88 in 1901 and 104 in 1891. Nineteen of its twenty houses were inhabited. These figures describe the whole townland, including its dispersed dwellings, rather than a separately returned village. [3]
