Place & story
Land and a meeting house
The transcribed valuation for Crilly around 1860 records Vaughan Montgomery as both occupier and immediate lessor of several holdings. It also lists a Presbyterian meeting house on land held from Montgomery, with a graveyard separately returned. The entries show worship and farming sharing the townland landscape. [2]
A mining-rights agreement
A 1911 grant catalogued by Cavan County Archives concerns mineral rights beneath just over 203 acres at Crilly. Its parties were Arthur Thellusson Whyte-Venables and Vaughan Montgomery of Crilly House. It establishes rights, rather than evidence of actual mining. [3]
