Place & story
The community centre
Cloonloo Development 2000 was formed in 1999 after the earlier development association disbanded. Its own account records improvements to Cloonloo Hall, including glazing, central heating and a new kitchen. The group also helped fund an electronic church bell and built a children’s playground. These projects place the church and hall at the centre of local community activity. [2]
Recording the surrounding landscape
The group’s heritage work extended into neighbouring townlands. At Templeronan cemetery in Cuppanagh it erected a history plaque and a guide to marked graves, and built a stone arch for the millennium. At Derryknockeran it developed the Wynnes View lookout. These are projects of the wider Cloonloo community, with the cemetery and viewpoint outside the village itself. [2]
