The remains of a medieval borough
Lisronagh preserves traces of a medieval settlement whose later course differed from nearby Clonmel and Fethard. An archaeological report describes surviving castle ruins, remnants of the borough and an old roadway. Testing for a particular development in 1996 found no archaeological remains within that site; it did not establish an absence of archaeology across Lisronagh. The surviving features belong to a settlement that once extended beyond the small modern village.[2]
The roofless church
The ruined Church of Ireland church was built in 1831–32 on the site of its medieval predecessor. Dismantled in 1923, it retains a limestone tower with pinnacles and battlements, pointed windows and a decorated Tudor-arched entrance. The graveyard includes table tombs and nineteenth-century memorials. Together with the neighbouring tower house, the church forms a conspicuous group within the remains of the earlier settlement.[3]
The school beside the old site
Lisronagh National School's history identifies a parish schoolhouse in documents from 1850, while leaving the exact foundation date unresolved. An early girls' school later became co-educational and remained on its original site until 1963. A replacement opened beside it that year. Further classrooms in 1993 and a major 2008–09 building programme marked later growth, continuing the educational use of this part of the locality.[4]
Both counts use the 2016 settlement boundary, allowing like-for-like comparison. CSO supplies the 2022 count on this older boundary for comparison only. The official 2022 Built Up Area has different boundaries.
