Saints Peter and Paul
Saints Peter and Paul Church is dated 1936. Its long nave has seven bays, with confessionals projecting from the side walls, a chancel at the west and a sacristy in the south-west corner. A bellcote rises above the entrance gable. Rendered walls and limestone copings give the building a restrained exterior. The National Inventory of Architectural Heritage records it as a significant element of Dromina's built and social heritage, documenting an interwar church rather than an assumed nineteenth-century chapel.[2]
Earlier teams and Shandrum United
Dromina GAA's own history records a hurling match against Churchtown at a Charleville tournament in 1887. A North Cork Junior A championship followed in 1927, when the club wore red and white. Two years later Dromina and Newtownshandrum combined as Shandrum United, training in O'Gorman's field at Corrough. That arrangement ended in 1931. The sequence shows that the village's sporting history includes temporary partnerships as well as a continuous local allegiance.[3]
A new club in blue and gold
The present club organisation dates to late 1953, when blue and gold became its colours; its first championship fixture followed against Buttevant in March 1954. Later cooperation continued at youth level, including the St Bernards Dromina–Newtown club from 1966 to 1984. Dromina won a county junior hurling title in 2003 after victories over Watergrasshill, Kanturk and Argideen Rangers. The club's account connects these successes with several earlier generations of village players.[3]
Both counts use the 2016 settlement boundary, allowing like-for-like comparison. CSO supplies the 2022 count on this older boundary for comparison only. The official 2022 Built Up Area has different boundaries.
