Three generations of school buildings
Dunderrow's first national school was built at the Doon in 1841: one room shared by two teachers. The school's history records a move to a two-room building at Horsehill More in 1933, followed by an additional classroom in 1980. Growing enrolment led to another move. A four-classroom school at Leighmoneymore was completed in 2000, with later extensions enlarging the accommodation. These changes trace education across several sites within the Dunderrow locality rather than one continuously occupied building.[2]
A new industrial chapter
The pharmaceutical campus known as Lilly Kinsale brought a different scale of activity to the Dunderrow area. Lilly's site history records purchase of the property in 1978 and the start of active-ingredient production in March 1981. Biotechnology manufacturing followed in 2011. The company's timeline documents the site's development from chemical production into a campus using several manufacturing technologies. This industrial history sits alongside the older rural settlement and its community institutions.[3]
Both counts use the 2016 settlement boundary, allowing like-for-like comparison. CSO supplies the 2022 count on this older boundary for comparison only. The official 2022 Built Up Area has different boundaries.
