Place & story
A hotel above Clew Bay
The railway hotel was designed in 1895 and opened in 1897. Its elevated position looks across Trawoughter Strand and Clew Bay. The architectural survey highlights the symmetrical frontage, central open porch and curving Dutch gables. It attributes the original design to Thomas Newenham Deane and Son. [2]
Restoration
The hotel was damaged in 1922–23 and repaired in 1924. After a prolonged period of neglect, restoration in 2004–05 retained its overall form and much original or replicated fabric. [2]
