Place & story
An older house behind the name
The Placenames Database identifies Laurel Lodge as a population centre in Castleknock parish and barony. Its explanatory note traces the name to a large house shown on the nineteenth-century Ordnance Survey six-inch maps and the later twenty-five-inch mapping. [2]
The parish of Saint Thomas
The Archdiocese of Dublin records the establishment of Laurel Lodge parish in 1982. Its church is dedicated to Saint Thomas the Apostle, giving the neighbourhood a distinct parish identity within the expanding Castleknock area. [3]
A shared centre
Castleknock Community Centre was established in Laurel Lodge in 1995 to serve Laurel Lodge and Carpenterstown. The community facilities network places it beside Scoil Thomáis, the church and other neighbourhood services, with spaces for meetings, recreation and community activities. [4]
