Place & story

Pupils without a building

St Thomas National School began in April 1980, with Seamus Massey as principal. For its first two years, Jobstown pupils used rooms in schools elsewhere: initially Killinarden and Knockmore, then Aylesbury and Castleview. Parents helped supervise the buses that carried children to the temporary classrooms. [2]

A local home for education

The school moved into its own Jobstown building in April 1982. Continued growth required separate junior and senior schools. St Thomas’s Senior School recalls later pressure on space, including using the hall and church as classrooms and adding prefabricated rooms. Jobstown’s Catholic parish was formally constituted from Springfield in March 1983. [2] [3] [4]
