Place & story
An older room within a rebuilt house
Chesterfield House began in the early nineteenth century and was remodelled around 1880. Mary Kennelly’s 2026 planning inspection records that rebuilding around 1970 retained the drawing room inside a substantially changed house. The room, itself altered over time, therefore provides continuity without making the surrounding building an unchanged early residence. The report distinguishes its L-shaped interior and upper-ground-floor position from later construction. [2]
A room facing the grounds
The drawing room overlooks Chesterfield’s southern grounds. Kennelly describes a central path framed by two tall cedars, with views across lawns and an ornamental pond towards a meadow. A summer house also survives beside the house. These features explain the relationship between the interior and its setting. Her inspection found the formal garden overgrown; the account records its condition in 2026 rather than promising access or describing completed restoration. [2]
